The girls had a 1/2 day of school today, so I took part of a vacation day and enjoyed the beautiful mid 80 degree day with them at the parks and ice cream stand.
Our afternoon started with chocolate shakes as we drove home. After a quick stop at home, we headed to the Lower Huron Metropark for some geocaching and playing at the playground. While there, we found Keeleigh's Kache and Old Man Savage's homestead, then headed to Blue Sky for lunch (and ice cream of course).
With it being a breezy day, it sure seemed to be perfect weather for flying kites, so we then headed to Elizabeth Park where there was sure to be a good breeze coming off the water. I really enjoy Elizabeth Park and watching people stroll the walkways and boardwalk along the river. Its a shame that the park isn't part of the Metropark system and better maintained as it really is a beautiful park. While, the breeze was not what I hoped for, Stan & Ruth's America the Beautiful cache is located in the park, so naturally it was time for more geocaching. The particular cache was based on a puzzle that took me nearly a year to figure out, so it was especially rewarding to find it, and the fact that it was the 150th that we had found made it especially memorable.
Since we were not quite able to get the kites aloft, we headed down to Erie Metropark where the breeze off the lake was sure to help, and within minutes the kites were up in the air and we were skipping stones in the lake. With darkness setting in, we found the Characters Welcome IV cache as we left the park.
Since our afternoon started with ice cream, it seemed only fitting to end it that way, so we stopped at Custard Corner in Trenton.
What a fantastic day!
