What does mold growth, LED lights, iCarly, a Groovy Smoothie and Socko's socks have in common? Absolutely nothing... unless you are talking about Riley's science fair project.
This was the first year that Riley could participate in the science fair at school, and she wanted to make her project interesting in a way that her classmates would learn a little bit, and at the same time be entertained. She based the project on the idea that Spencer spilled his Groovy Smoothie and stepped in it with his light up Socko's socks. She covered two leg forms (casts from the hospital) with LED and with incandescent lights, slipped multicolored socks over them, soaked the socks with a strawberry banana smoothie and plugged in the lights and made daily observations for mold growth.
I think that she had the most fun decorating the project board which she covered in denim, flower and peace sign patches, pictures from iCarly and the supporting scientific information. It definitely had an iCarly flavor to it. When it was all complete and assembled, she sat down on the couch, admired her work, and tears of pride filled her eyes.
I feel that she was graded a little hard on the project - she forgot to include a graph of the mold's growth, but I am not sure how you could measure it. But, based on the comments of classmates and other students at the science fair, I think that she definately accomplished what she hoped to, and most importantly, she seemed to really enjoy it.
