Easter picnic

For the past several years, our Easter tradition has been to gather with family for an elaborate dinner and an egg hunt for the kids either here at home, or at Kris' house.   This year, with the weather so unseasonably warm, we decided to have a more simple dinner and the egg hunt at Maybee "Rocket park" instead.   Our thought was that we would have the park virtually to ourselves...boy were we wrong!

We arrived at the park to find it packed with people, and I began to wonder if that was such a grand idea after all.   Luckily, by the time Kris arrived, most of the visitors had left with the exception of a family with two little girls.   Fortunately we had extra eggs in the car and were able to make up enough eggs for them to participate too.   After Uncle Gene and I hid them, the kids scrambled to find their own color.   Riley and Gene had to really search for theirs as Uncle Gene REALLY hid them, while I left the younger kids' eggs more out in the open.   It took some time, but eventually all of the eggs were found (with the exception of one green one just couldn't be found).    All of the kids enjoyed themselves, and it was really nice to share our tradition.   Although they were complete strangers, the parents appreciation and the kids excitement was clearly genuine.

After the egg hunt, we enjoyed a ham dinner complete with all of the 'fixins' and then Aunt Krissy pulled out these fist sized marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate and the kids enjoyed some Easter smores.   We closed the evening with some playing on the playground and Kennedy decided to climb the enormous tree -- she is such a monkey!
