Maybe there is something to the notion that birds can predict the weather, because no sooner had it started snowing, then the birds started swarming around the feeders. I had been observing the feeders during the day in preparation of the Great Backyard Bird Count, and once the snow started, I had pretty much given up hope of seeing much -- boy was I wrong!
While I didn't see anything really unique, in the short peroid of time, the ground was covered with starlings and a few American tree sparrows. Shortly after submitting the observations to the website, (and after the starlings were gone), the ground was then filled with even more sparrows.
