The threat of clouds deterred about 50 people, but not the girls and I (or about 35 other people) at a late night program at Oakwoods Nature Center about the Perseid meteor showers. The program was a combination of indoor talk about the origin of the meteors, the constellations, and where to look for them. We then went outdoors and looked at Venus through the telescopes and then stretched out on some picnic tables and looked for 'shooting stars'. After about an hour, heavy cloud cover came in and made it impossible to see anything, but I did see one briefly streak across the sky, and of course made a wish upon it.
