The girls finally got home from their vacation with their mom today. While it was only 5 days, it seemed so much longer. I got lots of hugs when I picked them up, so I think that the sense of missing was mutual. With them being with their mom on the holiday, today was sort of our celebration together. As we drove home, I gave the girls a list of ideas of things that we could do, and let them choose which one they would like to do.
- The day and fireworks celebration at the Cascades
- The beach and fireworks at Sterling state park
- A carnival and fireworks in Gibraltar
- The day and fireworks at Hudson Mills Metropark
- anything else that they could think of
Their choice? A water-balloon fight, slip & slide, hot dogs on the grill, playing on the trampoline, smores, and campfire at home kind of day. It wasn't the grand party-like celebration that some associate with the holiday, but to me it was perfect!
During our water-balloon fight, the girls tried to hide the balloons in their bathing suits and ambush me. Although it was apparent that they had them hidden and were well armed, I played along.
