Woodcock walk

An annual tradition of ours goes something like this.... rush to Oakwoods Nature Center after work, hear all about the courtship dance of the American woodcock, then venture out into the cold and approaching darkness to listen for its distinct (but not so impressive call), and look to the sky for its circular flight and plunge to ground and hope to see its courtship strut.

Friday evening, we again celebrated that springtime tradition.  Unfortunately, after three years, we are still waiting to see that courtship strut, but with good company and an entertaining interpreter we still had a good time.
