SMCC Falcon fun night

For years, I have had a love/hate relationship with SMCC. Maybe it was because I was the lone freshman from St. Stephens to go there and didn't have a bunch friends joining me to help ease the transition from elementary school, maybe it was because I was shunned because I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth and my parents weren't doctors or lawyers (I guess being blue-collar yet wanting what is best for your child wasn't enough), or maybe it was because I lived so far away that it wasn't practical for me to partake in sports or extra curricular activities, but whatever the reason, back then I HATED the two years that I attended there, and was grateful that the recession of the 80's prevented dad from continuing to pay my tuition to go there.

However, in reflection, I would have to say that when it comes to education, it was the best two years of school that I ever had, that the school spirit, devotion, and pride were beyond description, and that to this day, despite graduating from a different school, there is still a small part of me that feels an affection for the school. So much so, that if there was anyway possibly for me pay the $13,000/year tuition for the two girls, that there is no other school that I would rather them to go to.   That feeling is enhanced all the more after watching their video.

Perhaps, in some small way, I am still a Falcon at heart.

So, when I saw a mention of a Falcon fun night in the Monroe Evening News, I couldn't wait to take the girls. I'm glad that I did, between the ice skating, face painting, refreshments, and bouncers, they (along with their friends Mackenzie and Laura) had a great time...and for me, it made me realize that there are times when such a strong dislike as a child can transform itself over time into a fond experience.   I guess its all a matter of perspective.
