Matt, Tracy, Ava & Jakob joined the girls and I in seeking refuge from the coldest day of the year by exploring the U of M Exhibit Museum of Natural History .
It was our first time ever there and I was surprised at the variety of displays that they had. The girls especially liked the dinosaurs, but I think that Ava said it best when she said '...it would be better if there were real dinosaurs here' -- lol.
I was saddened to learn that the Native American dioramas there are going to be removed because it is felt that they do not accurately display how Native Americans really were nor do they belong in at venue that displays prehistoric animals and fossils but no other cultural group. I'm sure that there is a lot of good that will come from this, but I guess I can't help but wonder if maybe they are being TOO politically correct. To me, it would be better to update the displays much as possible so that they accurate portray the life of early Americans and find an appropriate location to display them, rather than completely remove them from public viewing and storing them away in some dusty store room. Sigh.
