Its hard to believe just how fast the six week DYPAC winter workshop flew by, and that it was already time to see how all the hard work and practicing paid off.
Riley seemed nervous before the show, so I tried to reassure her that IF she did anything wrong, that nobody in the audience would even be aware of it. But being the perfectionist, I think that she was more concerned with the fact that her parents, grandma, aunts, and cousins would notice more than anyone else. "But you were here each week, YOU'LL know dad!" I don't know if my retort of "But even if you mess up really bad, YOU'RE still perfect in my eyes Riley!" made her feel any better, but her concerns made me realize just how much of herself she puts into everything -- well, except for maybe homework. ;-)
The theater was abuzz with parental pride and excitement that instantly ignited when the children began their energy circle chant and didn't temper at all until the final bows. Perhaps my opinion was a bit tainted as I was privy to the hours upon hours that went into it, but I think that all of the kids did an outstanding job!
In DYPAC I was searching for something fun to help Riley build self esteem, passion, a sense of fulfillment and camaraderie. Ms. Mary and her staff provided everything that I sought (and more). I drove home with a sense of disappointment that the workshop was over, but also with a sense of anticipation as not only did Riley ask to enroll in the next session, but Kennedy asked as well.
