Friday morning, I was looking for something for the girls and I to do over the weekend and after reading about the Nick Jonas concert, (and with some "You will be the world's coolest dad" nudging from Julie) decided to spontaneously get tickets for us. The concert was sold out, but luckily I found a great deal on stubhub.com. Sure our seats were the very last row, but my hunch told me that the energy and excitement of the show would make up for the fact that we were about a 1/4 mile from the stage -- lol.
I told the girls that there was something in the evening that I wanted to do, and I wouldn't give them any of the details. I simply told them that it was a surprise and they would have fun. Traffic was terrible (I suspect because of the autoshow and concert), but I finally found a place to park and as we walked with the crowd, I told the girls that we were going to the autoshow. Needless to say, they were quiet, but I could tell by their frowns, that it wasn't the 'fun' that they expected. As we walked with the autoshow/concert crowd and neared the Fox theater, Riley saw that marquee and said "OMG Kennedy, look Nick Jonas is here tonight". We had just listened to a song of his in the car, and I said something like "Isn't that who we just heard on the radio? Why don't we go see him?" and I pulled out the tickets. Good thing that we had paused to let the autoshow event goers continue on as the girls froze in their footsteps and would have been trampled. The look of shock and excitement on their faces was such an amazing reward!
The concert was a mix of young girls screaming at the top of their lungs accompanied by eardrum shattering music in the background. I'll admit that I found the concert to be much better than I expected though. He is an amazingly talented young man who seemed humbled by the stardom. The music was a blend of funk inspired heavy guitar riffs, a melody of pop covers, and favorites that the crowd sang along to.
Its been a while since I went to a concert, and I'm fairly sure that I was among the oldest people there, but I'm pretty sure that I had just as much fun as the girls.
